Reasons to be cheerful 2010

Reasons to be cheerful (image)

From all at Baber Smith

This year, the good people of Baber Smith transcended simply selecting a few things to add a smile and moved almost unwittingly into the realms of actually making predictions. What could make us do such a thing? A World Cup of course, more specifically a World Cup that England are in. So, without further ado, our top ten reasons to be cheerful in 2010 are:

1. England are almost certainly, definitely, actually going to win the World Cup in South Africa.

Continuing the Brits winning stuff theme how about

2. Colin Firth gets Best Actor Oscar for A Single Man.

3. If the Summer’s as summery as the Winter was wintry then it’s going to be scorchio. That’s right you heard us say BBQ Summer here first.

Can you believe we waited to no.4 for the R-word?

4. That pesky recession has gotta be behind us now. So look forward to ‘greater economic prosperity’ and if the news is even-handed about this then there’ll obviously be lots of upwards pointing arrows all over our TV screens for several months.

[I wonder if Robert Peston thinks this should be on the list? Be honest Robert you loved it]

5. You will shortly have an excuse to eat Cadbury’s Creme Eggs again. They’re already being advertised and it’s only January.

6. Low interest rates should be here for a while and long may cheap mortgages continue.

7. All our Biros will live longer, as writing 2010 uses slightly less ink than 2009 did.

8. We’ve still not heard a convincing argument for what this decade should be called. So there’s a chance to book yourself a little place in history and name it. Nineties, Noughties, but what comes next? You decide.

9. Which leads us nicely on to.. no more Big Brother and that goes double for the non-celebrity one - that’s right it’s "Day 2 in the Celebrity Big Brother House" and we’re already bored of it but at least it’s the last one.

10. It’s an election year which, in itself, isn’t necessarily something to look forward to. But wait, they’re taking on the live TV debate. Brown vs. Cameron and that other one. It’ll be terrible or marvelous but it’ll definitely be a must-see.

So there you have it and whatever happens it’s not 2009 anymore and if only for that reason let’s all cheer up, stop collectively feeling sorry for ourselves and get busy with creating bigger and better things.

Wishing you a happy and successful New Year from all the team at Baber Smith.
